Welcome to E-DISCOVER, OMDE online career development software program. Below is your personal account information for the licensed program. Please keep this letter for future reference. Please be aware that your user names and original passwords can be changed once you have logged into the program. The DISCOVER program is set up like a webpage with interactive content and hyperlinks.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
In order to access the NL environment, a student must have a PC, a modem and an Internet connection. The PC must runs on an operating system equipped with a Web browser software that reads JAVA script. This program works best with Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher, or Netscape 6.0 or higher.

HOW TO PRACTICE USING DISCOVER
DISCOVER Orientation (is for all users). Click on Get started to review the four ready-made paths available to you. Each path has several steps. We will be using prepare for a job search for this class but you may then go return and select other paths later or you can make your own path by choosing the steps you want to do. The introduction provides new students with a tour of the program and a brief orientation. Upon logging in for the first time, users will have access to a tour (tutorial) for every page explaining key features of DISCOVER. To view the section you have completed just, click on "My Portfolio" at the top of the page and select the section you want to preview. Your Career Portfolio will contains a summary of all the information you entered in Discover. Options include:
Practice as long as you like. You may enter text, save your information to a disc, print out any relevant information to your job search. When you are finished, just log out by clicking finished at the top of the window. You may return to your online career portfolio as often as you wish.
General Information: My Portfolio Introduction
"My Portfolio" stores all the information entered in the other sections. It is a good idea to review the information at least once a year and correct anything that is no longer accurate.
Personal Information
To change personal information, click "My Personal Information." Then, make any necessary changes. In the Instructions box, click "My User ID or Password" to change your user ID and/or password. Click "My Private Information (Social Security Number, Secret Question, and Secret Answer)" to change that information. Your site may ask additional questions and they would be located in this section.
Resume Builder
Resume Builder allows the user to create the elements for a resume. Each topic is a link to the page where that information can be entered. After information has been entered, a checkmark will appear to the left of that topic, as shown above. To add information or to edit, click a resume topic. A "Submit" and a "Next" button can be found on each topic page. To complete all topics, begin with the first topic and use the "Next" button to move on, which saves before going to the next topic. Clicking "Next" on the last topic page takes you to the Printer–Friendly Resume Report. While viewing the above page, you can print your resume information by selecting "Printer–Friendly Resume Report." Before clicking this button, use the checkboxes to select the topics to include in that report. To learn more about writing a resume, click on the "Learn More About Resumes" button.
Space is provided for only one address and only one job objective. All other topics allow the entry of any number of sets of information. On the page shown above, the "Add Lines" button can be used as often as necessary to create space for more entries. After saving resume information, you may need to delete some of your entries. Use the checkboxes in the "Delete" column to indicate which rows you want to delete, then click the "Delete" button.
Some pages also have "Sample..." buttons. On the page shown, clicking "Sample Activities" would display examples of how activities might look on a resume. After viewing the sample page, click the "Back" button to return to the page where the information can be entered.
The Printer–Friendly Resume Report includes all information that has been entered if the topic has been selected on the Resume Builder page. To reformat this information for your resume, use your cursor to highlight the body of the report, then choose Edit —> Copy. Start your word processor and open a new document. Then choose Edit —> Paste. You can then edit the information and format it as you wish.
Path Summary
"Path Summary" displays a description of the DISCOVER steps chosen. If you have not completed "Plan My Path" you will be directed to complete it. Click on "Plan My Path" to change your path.
Inventory Summary
"Inventory Summary" displays the summary of all inventory results. The World-of-Work map is on the left and a list of suggested career areas is on the right. Click on a career area to review the occupations in that area. Click on the name of an inventory to take it again.
Clicking the "Think About Next Steps" button on the upper left of the screen allows for the opportunity to summarize what was learned and plan what to do next. The summary appears at the bottom of the page under "My Thoughts and Next Steps."
Inventory & Test Score Summary
Clicking on the "Inventory & Test Scores Summary" button in the Instructions box displays more details about each inventory and the scores you entered. If you plan to discuss your career choices with a counselor or advisor, be sure to bring this information with you.
Occupations Summary
"Occupations Summary" lists favorite education level(s), career areas, occupations, and military occupations. Click on any item on the list to see it again. To remove an item from your favorites list, click on it. While viewing any item, you can remove it from your favorites by selecting the "Remove from Favorites" button at the top of the description. Clicking the "Think About Next Steps" button on the upper left of the screen allows for the opportunity to summarize what was learned and plan what to do next. The summary appears at the bottom of the page under "My Thoughts and Next Steps."
My Portfolio Printout
Select "Printer-Friendly Report" to print select parts your portfolio. Click the "Select All" button to mark all of the check boxes, or click "Clear All" to unmark all of the check boxes. Then make sure the items you wish to print are checked. Click "Submit" to view the items you have selected.
The printer-friendly version contains all of the topics you selected. Printing instructions are in a box at the top of the screen.

Job Search Introduction
The "Job Search" section offers a variety information about the job search. The topics cover a broad spectrum, from writing a resume to finding an apprenticeship.
Resume Topics
The "Resume" option provides answers to frequently-asked resume questions. Click on a question to see an answer. You can save your own resume information in your Career Portfolio. To build your own resume, click "Build My Resume" to link to this feature in the Portfolio section.
If you wish to print more than one answer, click "Printer-Friendly Report" and select the items you wish included. Click the "Select All" button to print all of the topics, or click "Clear All" to choose specific topics to print. Click "Submit" to see the information requested.
After you submit your request, all the selected information will be displayed with instructions on how to print it.
Sample Resumes
The "Sample Resumes" option lists sample resumes for various types of job seekers. Click on a resume type to see a sample resume. While the content of each sample resume may be specific to the type of person indicated, the formatting is not. Users should be encouraged to look at several sample resumes to get a better overview of the variety of options for resume formatting.
To print this information, click "File" and select "Print" on your browser. To save as a file, click "File" and select "Save As". Change the suggested file name to a meaningful name with the extension ".HTML" or TXT……*** NOTE- You will need to do this for the resume section of your portfolio so you can submit your resume as an email attachment.
