UMUC Selected for Highest Honors in Distance Education

 

The International Council for Open and Distance Education-the global organization of universities, national and regional associations, and government entities involved in distance education in 142 countries-has selected UMUC for its 2004 Prize of Excellence for "the highest possible excellence in the field of open, distance, virtual, and flexible learning."  It is the highest international honor available to recognize excellence in distance education.

 

Master of Distance Education Program Wins Sloan Award

 

UMUC's Master of Distance Education (MDE) program has won the prestigious Sloan Award as the most outstanding online teaching and learning program of 2003.  The Sloan Consortium, of which UMUC is a member, composes more than 450 institutions and organizations of higher education dedicated to the delivery and promotion of online learning. The award was presented at the 9th Sloan-C International Conference on Online Learning.

 

University of Continuing Education Association's 2003 Program of Excellence award in distance education.

 

The MDE program-a collaboration with Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, German-provides instruction in managing distance education programs to students around the world.  Earlier this year, the program garnered the University of Continuing Education Association's 2003 Program of Excellence award in distance education. The program was also featured in an article entitled "Learning Online to Teach Online" in the Chronicle of Higher Education.
