Reflective Summary Statement
This
portfolio is the culmination of my experience in the online Masters of
Distance Education program at the University of Maryland University
College. As I’ve journeyed through this program, I’ve sought to
apply what I’ve learned over the years in regards to distance
education & training, and relate it to the context of my current work
experience as an eLearning specialist at Northampton Community College.
For the last three years I’ve been managing an ACT Center, which is
part of a nationwide workforce development initiative, that provides
online workforce development training to various constituents in our
region. When I first started this initiative, I was new to the
field of distance learning but with the experience I gained through
the OMDE program, I advanced in my career and was able to
develop, write and implement a business plan and proposal for Northampton Community
College’s ACT Center. Our ACT Center was approved and launched as
the first authorized ACT testing center in
the state of Pennsylvania. Today, under my professional leadership
and education achieved through the OMDE program at UMUC,
our ACT Center is successfully growing and recognized as one of the
leading online providers used for WEDnetPA training. WednetPA is the
Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania committed
to making companies across the Commonwealth more competitive by
updating and improving the skills of their
employees. The Guaranteed Free training program and other
Grant Funded
Resources &Services in Pennsylvania now include funding sources for
workforce development training online.
